First Post!
Hey all,It is so exciting to see how far Today’s Teen Magazine has come! I’ve been with Today’s Teen since it’s infancy and watched it grow from a little paper to this fantastic forum for teens. It’s helped me come into my own as a writer and introduced me to so many things as a reader.
For those of you who don’t know me– my name is Ilana Jacqueline and I’m one of the feature writers at Today’s Teen. Besides that, I am also the resident book reviewer. I post all my reviews on my website, www.ilanawrites.com along with my articles, poetry, short stories, and my front page blog. I’m sort of a serial blogger.I’m 18 years old and just wrapping up my senior year of high school. Next year I’ll be attending Lynn University in Boca Raton to study English rhetoric and education. I’m also hoping to publish my novel within the next year. Here, I’ll mostly post about what’s going on with Today’s Teen, what I’m working on for each issue, who I’m interviewing, what I’m reading, etc.
For this issue I wrote a piece on taser guns. Gwen, the publisher of Today’s Teen, (whom I often refer to as my “Gweditor”) proposed the story and I sort of ran away and hibernated with it for an hour and threw it back at her fully formed. I also wrote two book reviews this month. As the president of the writing club over at my school (Olympic Heights High) I’m able to bring in local authors and introduce them to students. Lately, I’ve met two great local authors– Marjeeta Geerling and Debbie Fischer. Both have books coming out next month. Check out the reviews for Fancy White Trash and Braless in Wonderland in the new issue!
For the next issue I’m working on a review and interview for author Kristin Harmel (Claim to fame: The Blonde Theory & How to Sleep with a Movie Star) about her new young adult novel When You Wish. I’ll also have a review for the book Teen, Inc.
That’s all for now,
Ilana J.
